Captain Matt Haley has officially kicked off his campaign for the Harrison County Sheriff’s job.
Dozens of people showed up at the White Barn in Saucier to show their support for Matt Haley, who is running for sheriff.
A box was set up in front of the barn for people to donate to the campaign. Haley had his retirement ceremony as captain this week, while next Tuesday will be his last day. Then he will campaign.
He says the sheriff’s office is doing so well right now that he just wants to keep getting better. “I’m a big believer in ‘if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.’ There are some things that I am going to improve, in my opinion. I think I will stand out above any other candidate. There is no other candidate who has started his career in the Sheriff’s Office and has stood his ground to the end. I’m 26 1/2 years in the Sheriff’s Office, I’ve been through four sheriffs, and that’s a big deal. There is no division that I have not worked in and been a part of since I have been there. That is an experience that speaks for itself.”
Louis Elias has also announced that he will be running for Harrison County Sheriff this year.
